Reuben Lightner, 73, died at 6:40 o'clock Sunday morning at the University hospital at Iowa City, where he had been a patient since February 16. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at West Liberty, the Rev. F. D. Sutton, pastor of the Christian church, in charge.

Mr. Lighter was born July 15, 1859 in Ohio and came with his parents when a young boy to Downey where they lived during the early part of his life. His marriage to Lizzie Sarver took place May 9, 1883 in Iowa City. Following their marriage they lived south of Downey for one year, then moved to West Branch where Mr. Lightner was engaged in the blacksmith business. Four years later they moved to West Liberty where they have made their home since. Here Mr. Lightner was a brick mason and cement finisher.

He is survived by his widow; three sons, Albert Lightner, West Liberty, Charles, Sayre, Okla., Robert, Iowa City; one daughter, Mrs. Susie Helmer of Iowa City; one step-daughter, Mrs. Bert Martin, Sayre, Okla. Fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.
