Lewis Millett, 61, Ames, formerly of this place, died at 4 o'clock Saturday at his home in Ames following several weeks' illness.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Millett of near Springdale, where he grew to manhood. He was educated in the Springdale schools. His marriage to Miss Alice Horn, Springdale, took place about 35 years ago. Following their marriage they lived on a farm east of West Branch until moving to West Liberty where they made their home for a number of years. Five years ago they purchased a home at Ames where Mr. Millett died.

Surviving members of the family are Mrs. Millett, one daughter, Mrs. Arlene Rex, Ames; two brothers, Albert and Lee, Springdale; four sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Teefy, Lucy Millett, Springdale, Mrs. Alice Moorhead, West Branch and Mrs. Sadie Pearson, Miami, Florida. A brief service was held at Ames Sunday from where the body was removed that evening to the Snider funeral home in West Liberty.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the M. E. church. Interment was in Oak Ridge cemetery.

Lewis W. Millett, son of Alfred and Sarah Millett, was born June 2, 1872, at the old Millett home in Cedar county near Springdale, Iowa. On November 16, 1899, he was united in marriage with Alice M. Horn, also of Springdale. Two children were born to them, Mrs. Arlene Rex of Ames, and a son who died in infancy.

Mr. Millett was one of a family of eight children--Mrs. Sabrah Pearson who resides in Florida; Mrs. Alice Moorhead of West Branch; Mrs. Lizzie Teefy and Lucy, Albert and Lee Millett, all of Springdale; and another sister, Mrs. Mary Waters (deceased). His main interest and occupation was farming which he followed until the year 1918 when he and his family left their farm home near Springdale and moved to West Liberty. From there they moved to Ames in the fall of 1929.

During the past three years there had come the suffering of the severe pains of disease which expert medical care could relieve only temporarily. His great strength of character and fine personal qualities were shown so well by the cheerful way in which he bore the physical affliction and the denial of the privilege of hard work which, next to his love for his family, was the great abiding joy of his life.

Death came at the family home, 263 Campus Avenue, Ames, on Saturday afternoon, April the seventh, 1934.

Mr. Millett was a member of the Methodist church in West Liberty and in Ames was identified with the West Gate Presbyterian church. Interment was made at West Liberty near the scenes where most of his life was spent and where so many remember him as a great, good friend and neighbor.

A short service was held at the Duckworth funeral home in Ames, Dr. Harlow of the West Gate Presbyterian church in charge, with the final services at the Methodist Episcopal church at West Liberty with Rev. W. A. Smith in charge of the services.
