Funeral services for Mrs. Guy (Maycel E.) Mitchell, 78, Decorah, a native of Clarence; were held at the Burr Oak Methodist church, Decorah and at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, Dec. 15, 1989. Burial was in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Pastor Lavina M. Shoffner was in charge of the services.

Mrs. Mitchell died at Lutheran hospital, LaCrosse, Wis. Dec. 13.

The daughter of Edward and Amelia Becker Harmon, she was born at Clarence July 21, 1911. She graduated from Mechanicvsille high school. She was married to Guy E. Mitchell at Mechanicsville April 1, 1931. She received a teacher's certificate in oil painting from a school in Yuma, Ariz.

Mrs. Mitchell started in ceramics in 1946 and operated Maycel's Country Studio in Decorah for 35 years.

She was a past president of Iowa World Organization of China Painters, helped organize both the Nordic China Decorators and the Shade or Shadow China Painters. She helped to organize and set up the china display at every Nordic Fest craft show for 23 years where she displayed her china. She was a member of the International Porcelain Teacher's association and for 16 years participated at the Midwest Old Settlers and Thresher's associaton at Mt. Pleasant.

She is survived by her husband, 3 sons, Mayson, Decorah; Roger, Ridgeway; Keith, Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Bethany) Sanders, Ridgeway; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Ada Achey and Ruth Workman, Cedar Rapids and an aunt, Inez Reveal, Red House, W. Va.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Gerald McKenna.
