31 March 1864 - The Tipton Advertiser

DIED On the 10th inst., at Springdale, in this county, NAOMI, wife of Jonathan Maxson, in the 24th year of her age.

When those who have faithfully filled their places of usefulness are summoned from our midst, by the undeniable messenger, a tribute of affectionate regard is due to their memory.

The subject of this brief notice was one of whom it may be truly said, that the gentle, unobtrusive features which marked the character of her daily life, endeared her to those who enjoyed the privilege of her friendship. But her worth could be best appreciated within the narrower limits of the home circle, where, with beautiful propriety, she discharged the duties of a devoted wife and mother, an affectionate daughter and tenderly attached sister.

While keenly mourning this bereavement, it is a consoling reflection, that we sorrow not as those who have no hope; but, confiding in the mercy and goodness of God, can reverently believe that her purified and ransomed spirit has exchanged the transitory scenes of earth for the enduring joys of Heaven.

The remains were taken to the Friends' meeting house, at Springdale, and after a large and solemn meeting, held on the occasion, were interred in the adjoining graveyard.

May the circumstance of her sudden removal from works to rewards cause each one of us wisely to consider the solemn injunction of Holy Writ: "Be ye therefore ready also; for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not." T.W.
