Old Resident of Cedar County Passed Away Last Week -- At Stanwood

Mr. Lewis E. Mackey was born in Pioneer Grove, Cedar County, west of Mechanicsville, March 5, 1860. He was the son of Nathaniel Mackey and Martha Frances Scott Mackey. During his boyhood his parents moved from Pioneer Grove to a place near Walnut Grove, 3 miles north and 1 1/2 miles west of Stanwood, where they purchased a farm and where Lewis and his brother and sister grew to manhood and womanhood. Mrs. Nathaniel Mackey was a church member and attended the St. John's church until after her husband's death when she moved to Mechanicsville and became a member of the Methodist church there.

On the 6th day of January in his 21st year, Lewis Mackey was united in marriage to Miss Ophelia Jane Pugh of Delaware County, Ohio. To this union were born three children, Ira Russell Mackey, of Stanwood, Iva Frances, now Mrs. Parley Winchip, of Olin; and Nathaniel Ray Mackey now of Mechanicsville. Also four grandchildren and one great grand child. Twenty-four years ago the family moved into Stanwood.

Mr. Mackey became ill about two years ago, tho at first not seriously, working considerably all the while. About six months ago a change was noted for the worse but still he was not entirely bedfast. During the last four weeks, however, he was confined entirely to his bed. He died on Wednesday morning, October the First, 1930.

Mr. Mackey had six brothers and one sister, two of whom survive him, Mr. Prior Mackey of Glidden, Iowa and Frank Mackey of Monrovia, California.

The funeral was held from the home on Thursday, October 3rd and interment was had in the Stanwood cemetery.
