14 October 1897 - The Tipton Advertiser

DIED McDANIEL.--At her home in Ames, Iowa, October 5, 1897, Mrs. Jane McDaniel, aged 49 years, 6 months.

The deceased leaves a husband, mother, one sister, and two brothers to mourn her departure. She was born in Pennsylvania, April 8, 1848. At the age of five, with her parents, she came to Tipton, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood. On May 19, 1865, she was married to Henry McDaniel. The past sixteen years they have lived in Ames.

Twenty-one years ago she united with the M.E. church, entering earnestly into all its departments of work, the Sunday school being her especial delight. Soon after going to Ames she took a class in the primary department and kept the same class until shortly before her death. Many of the members of that class have become members of the church. Her last thoughts were of her young men. A few days before she died she sent this message to one of them: "For ye are bought with a price." Mrs. McDaniel was a member of the W.F.M.S., the L.A.S., W.C.T.U. and W.R.C. The church and kindred societies will miss her helping hand. All are saying, "we have lost a sister well beloved," but submissively bow and say, "Father, Thy will be done," realizing that our loss is her gain. The secret of her life was in being continually led by her Master.
