31 March 1864 - The Tipton Advertiser

DIED At his place of residence in Iowa township, on the morning of Sunday, the 21st of February, 1864, of a spasm of the heart, WILLIAM HOCH, aged 66 years.

Mr. HOCH was born at Basle, in Switzerland, where, and in France, he received a liberal education. At the age of 18 he entered the French army as a Lieutenant. At the downfall of Bonaparte Mr. Hoch resigned and emigrated to Schuylkill county, Pa., where he married and resided till the fall of 1840, when he removed to his last place of residence on earth, and where for the last 23 years, he has been known and esteemed as one of the most upright, intelligent and public spirited citizens of Cedar county. He leaves behind him an aged widow who has been the sharer of his toils, sorrow and joys for the last forty years. He also leaves, to mourn his loss, five sons and one daughter, together with a great many friends who knew the value and tenacity of his friendship; yet they all have the consolation of knowing that he died as he had always lived--an honest man--and as such that he can stand before his Creator without shame.
