MAY FIRST WAS BATTLE ANNIVERSARY OF 24TH IOWA

Last Tuesday was the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Port Gibson, Mississippi. This was the battle in which the 24th Iowa Volunteer Infantry received its baptism of fire, and one Tipton boy, Mont. Fraseur, lost his life in the engagement.

The Tipton survivors of the battle are F. L. Sheldon, Daniel Ford and Johnson Spear and the stirring events of that day are as fresh in their minds as though they happened yesterday.
