Carroll Sentinel - November 21, 1901 - Word was received last night of the death of E.H. Brooks at his home at Oto. Mr. and Mrs. Sturges left on the morning train to attend the funeral.

E.H. Brooks was one of the pioneer residents of Carroll, coming here in 1869, when the town was first organized as a municipal corporation, and was a member of the first town council. He engaged in the agricultural implements and lumber business, being the pioneer lumber merchant of the town. After several years thus employed he engaged in the milling business in the Baumhover mills and as Carroll's only miller he enjoyed a large trade and an extensive acquaintance with the people of this vicinity.

From Carroll he removed to Oto in the eighties and has since resided there, keeping up his Carroll acquaintance by occasional visits at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.E. Sturges. For a number of years he has been in poor health and has suffered greatly. His old friends in this community will regret his demise and will sympathize with his family in their bereavement.
