Very few birth records are recorded that early in Iowa. I looked at those that were recorded for Parkersburg and for Albion township but I could not locate any record. Since his father Calvin Chapman was a farmer in Albion township, he most likely was born on the farm and it was not recorded since there was no mandatory law at that time. Edward Harold's Social Security application states that he was born near Parkerburg, Iowa.

The sale of the farm recorded in Butler County land deeds will give you the date the farm was sold and a ballpark date for the move to Wisconsin. A cursory check of land indicated that Calvin Chapman's farm was located in Section 10 of Albion Township which is 3-1/2 miles north and 4 miles east of Parkersburg. There is still a farm house standing built in 1880 in that neighborhood which was either the Chapman home or a close neighbor. If you search on a map, that address today is 29509 Quail Ave., Parkersburg, Iowa. There could also be a baptismal record in a local church in or near Parkersburg.

I did locate an obituary and the Social Security application for him.

BELOIT, Wis. - Services for Harold Edward Chapman former Beloit resident who died Friday [January 17, 1958] in Atlanta, Ga., will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Rosman-Uehling-Kinzer chapel, with the Rev. Kermit R. Olsen, pastor of First Baptist church officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. Mr. Chapman was born in Parkersburg, Ia., and spent most of his early life in Beloit. Surviving are his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Carl Pirkle and Mrs. M. O. Mobley, Atlanta; a son, Paul, Elizabethtown, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. L. M. Reckhow, Rockford, and Mrs. Frederick Donovan, Beloit; and a brother, Guy, Beloit.
