ELLIOTT line

ELLIOTT, BETTS

Christopher BETTS & Lucinda ELLIOTT of Butler County, Iowa are my great-grandparents. They were married Jan. 1, 1859 in Cedar Falls, Black Hawk County, IA by Rev. J.M. Phillips & are buried in Lowelltown Cemetery, Clarksville, Butler County, IA. They eventually named their 5 BETTS sons William H., John Wesley, Charles, George Herbert & Arthur Elliott, names which might indicate ELLIOTT family affiliations. Specifically, the names Arthur & Charles are not found in my BETTS family research.

I have traced Christopher BETTS back to PA but know nothing of Lucinda ELLIOTT. I found them in the Black Hawk County Iowa 1860 census, roll 187. This couple is registered on page 86, #256/237. Lucinda's age is 22 and her birth place is Ireland! At this same address there is another ELLIOTT listed, Charles, 21, a carpenter also born in Ireland! (perhaps he is a brother or cousin?)

I then found an entry # 307/287 in the same 1860 census record for another ELLIOTT family, and all adults were also born in Ireland! Their names are:

William ELLIOTT, a farmer of 45 yrs, wife Jane, 30, both born in Ireland. At their address was listed another ELLIOTT, Charles, 23, a blacksmith born in Ireland.

These families could be related! I need tips from descendents of either of these Ireland-born ELLIOTT families or clues from others who might know about them to help me find out about my ancestors!

According to what I've learned so far from internet communication, the ELLIOTTs were probably from one of the Scot-Irish communities in the counties of northern Ireland.

In response to an internet query I received the following was data:

Living in Oklahoma, I have found very little resource material to further this research. I'd appreciate so very much anyone who might be able to identify this ELLIOTT line or direct me to fellow researchers for assistance. Thank you.
