Rites held for Grace Weiland

Mrs. Grace Weiland, daughter of Richard and Maggie Bloom Menken, was born Oct. 1, 1890 in Ostfriesland, Germany and passed away on Aug. 8, 1974 at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton attaining the age of 83 years, 10 months and 7 days. She was the oldest of 14 children and when a small child came to America with her parents. They settled on a farm near Ackley and in 1908 moved to a farm near Greene.

On Jan. 1, 1910 she was married to Ralph Weiland. Most of their married life was spent on a farm 4 miles north of Bristow until she and her husband moved to Bristow in 1944. She was an active member of the First Reformed Church of Bristow and Guild for Christian Service. She also served as a Sunday School teacher for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1962, her son Walter in 1965, 2 sisters, Mrs. Jeanette Martzhan and Mrs. Alice Crooks; 2 brothers, Richard Menken and Herman Menken.

Surviving are 2 sons, John and Paul, both of Bristow; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Otto and George of Greene and John of Aredale; 6 sisters, Mrs. Helen Kock, Mrs. Zena Stauffer, Mrs. Maggie Skillen and Mrs. Chris Crosby, all of Greene; Mrs. Anna Wegand of Nashua and Mrs. Bena Bloker of Janesville, besides other relatives and friends.
