O. S. Newcomb died at Shell Rock on the 2d. He came to that town and opened a store there in 1855, and had been a continuous resident and business man up to the day of his death, except during the War of the Rebellion, when he was a member of Co. E, of the 32d Iowa Infantry. While a prisoner of war at Camp Ford, Texas, he was converted, and ever since has been an active member of the Disciple church. He was at his death vice president of the local bank, treasurer of the school district, and considered rich for his community.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Riverside Cemetery and was born May 20, 1830.
