Samuel McConkey

Services for Samuel L. McConkey, 84, Storm Lake, will be held Dec. 18 at Church of Christ, Storm Lake, Rev. Jim Blake will officiate. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery, Storm Lake. Sliefert Funeral Home, Storm Lake, is in charge of arrangements. He died Dec. 15 in Arlington Texas.

McConkey was born January 26, 1902 to Loren and Nellie (DeGrofft) McConkey in Cuba, Illinois. When he was four years old, he moved with his parents to the Storm Lake area and spent the remainder of his life here. He attended the Hayes Community School. He married Florence Hughes on June 26, 1929. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Storm Lake. He served as a deacon and also helped in the building of the present structure. He was an employee of the City of Storm Lake for several years. Prior to that time, he was a farmer. Since his retirement in 1964 he had been busy with fishing and carpentry work.

He is preceded in death by his parents and wife.

He is survived by two sons — Ronald McConkey, Casa Grande, Ariz., and Duane McConkey, Excelsior, Minn; two daughters — Mrs. Russ (Florine) Watts, Arlington, Texas, and Mrs. Norman (Norma Jean) Maynard, Canal Fulton, Ohio; three brothers — Loren McConkey, Brewster, Minn., Carl McConkey, Storm Lake, and Linn McConkey, Fonda; two sisters — Mrs. Fritz (Vera) Markley, Glendale, Ariz, and Marie Porter, Jefferson; 12 grandchildren ; and 16 greatgrandchildren.
