Jay Richard Nehring
July 3, 1967 - October 15, 2018

Jay Nehring, age 51, of Early, Iowa, died on Monday, October 15, 2018, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Jay Richard Nehring, a son of Bruce and Camelia Nehring, was born on July 3, 1967, in Storm Lake, Iowa. He grew up in Albert City where he attended Our Savior's Lutheran Church. A member of the 1986 graduating class of Albert City - Truesdale, he participated in all the sports, band, and choir programs. Then, he attended and graduated from Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, Iowa. On September 15, 1990, Jay married Karen Kay Seehusen Mandicino in Albert City. During the next twenty-eight years, they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Liberty Sue, who became the apple of Jay’s eyes.

An industrious man, Jay loved working with his hands in construction. Indeed, he could build anything. For fifteen years, he worked for Early Builders until they closed. Then, he worked for Bargloffs for fifteen and a half years. There he took his last breath.

Jay loved fire departments. He served with the Albert City Fire Department for a year and a half with his dad and then with the Early Fire Department for twenty-six years and for five years as assistant Fire Chief. Most of all, however, Jay loved Sunday afternoons at the water fights, trying to outdo his dad. A hard-core Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Cubs, Iowa State, and Race Fan, Jay, also, played slow pitch softball for many years. Moreover, he loved to go hunting and fishing in his free time.

A very kind and patient man, Jay died at age 51 on Monday, October 15, 2018, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center. He is preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; his father- and mother-in-law, Bill and Mildred Seehusen, his step-son, Dominick Mandicino; his aunt, Beverly Nehring; and his uncle, Jerry Johnson.

Those left to continue those stories and memories include his wife, Karen Nehring, of Early; his daughter, Liberty Nehring (James Lenhart), of Early; his parents, Bruce and Camelia Nehring, of Albert City; his brother, Tim (Candy) Nehring, of Humboldt; his sister, Pamela (Todd) Schoening, of Bondurant; his sisters-in-law, Lizzy Ford (Late Troy) and Liz Pollaway; his nieces: Khristyl Imhof; Danielle (Brian) Johns; and Conner, Asher, and Michelle Pollaway; and Alyssa and Morgan Nehring; and his nephews, Gregory and Conrad Schoening; as well as many more family members, cousins, friends, and all area Fire Departments that touched Jay’s life.

A funeral mass will be offered on Monday, October 22, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early. Burial will follow in the Good Hope Cemetery in Correctionville. Visitation will take place on Sunday, October 21, 2018, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the CHURCH. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
