Arleen Ivers, age 88, of Schaller, Iowa, died on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Arleen Louise Bumann was born on January 27, 1930, to George and Lillie (Peckenschneider) Bumann on their farm near Hanover in Buena Vista County.

She began her elementary education in a country school, Maple Valley No. 4, before transferring to St. John’s Parochial School. After graduating from Alta High School, she married Merle Madsen in 1946. They farmed near Rembrandt until 1960 when they moved to a farm near Schaller. Twelve children were born to their union: Carolyn, Michael, Susan, Joyce, Janet, Don, Patricia, Nancy, Shirley, James, Pamela, and Lori. They divorced in 1978. In 1987, Arleen married Henry Ivers. They continued living on the acreage near Schaller. Henry passed in 2003.

A member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Schaller, she continued to practice her faith in God throughout her life. After her children had grown, she worked at Ivers Lockers in Storm Lake and at Franz Implement in Schaller. Later, she babysat for many children until she retired in 2005. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, and cake decorating.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Pamela and Shirley (Keith) Adams; Patricia Babcock; Carolyn Hunter; Joyce (D.T.) Huster; Don, James, and Janet Madsen; Lori Meyers; Susan (Ed) Naberhaus; and Nancy Overmohle; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law: VerNelda and Mardell Bumann; her step-children: Pearl (Alan) Dvorkin; Henry “Butch” (Sandi) Ivers; Lois (Dwain) Holmes; eight step-grandchildren; and twenty-one step-great-grandchildren; as well as extended family members.

Arleen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry, in 2003; her son, Michael, in 1996; her brothers, Orren and Eugene; her sons-in-law, Butch Overmohle and Jim Hunter; and her granddaughter, Sara Hunter.

A funeral mass will be offered on Monday, July 16, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 15, 2018, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a recitation of the rosary at 5:00 p.m., all at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
