James Vernard Vanderhoff
January 10, 1949 - June 12, 2018

James Vanderhoff, age 69, of Linn Grove, Iowa, died on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

James Vernard Vanderhoff, a son of Vernard (Bud) and Ethel (Kohnke) Vanderhoff, was born on January 10, 1949, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Baptized at St. Patrick’s Church in Gilmore City and later confirmed at the same church, he attended grade school and then graduated from Newell Providence High School in 1967.

James married first Diane Warme. To this union, three children were born: Jason James, Jennifer Dee, and Jodi Adele. On November 11, 1994, James married Kate Vanderhoff in Newell, Iowa.

A long-time member of the SYC Guide and the NRA, James, in his free time, enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching, gardening, golfing, and solving puzzles. In addition, he loved to spend time with his family, especially with his children, grandchildren, and pal, Jigs. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Jason (Michele) Vanderhoff, of Newell, Iowa, Jennifer Kruse, of Fonda, Iowa, and Jodi (Alex) Rojas, of Newell, Iowa; his brother, Jack (Karla) Vanderhoff, of Newell, Iowa; his sisters, Jan (Mike) Dick, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Joyce (Dana) Haahr, of Newell, Iowa; his grandchildren: Chelsee (Brad) Bohe; Reed Kruse; Jaron and Jaicee Vanderhoff; and Maggie, RJ, and AJ Rojas; his sister-in-law, Pam Palmer, of Mesa, Arizona; his step-father, Don Crowley, of Newell, Iowa; and Hal (Audrey) Babb, of Montana; as well as extended family members and friends. James was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Vernard Vanderhoff; infant brothers, John and Jackie Vanderhoff; his wife, Kate Vanderhoff; and his son-in-law, Kurt Kruse.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Nain Lutheran Church in Newell. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Clare, Iowa. Visitation will be on Monday, June 18, 2018, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Special Youth Challenge Ministers in Webb, Iowa.
