Ruth A. (Garrels) Peterson
November 26, 1941 - May 27, 2018Ruth Ann (Garrels) Peterson, age 71, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Englewood, Florida, died unexpectedly on May 27, 2018, in Venice, Florida.
A daughter of Elmer S. and Wilma F. (Beattie) Garrels, Ruth Ann was born on November 26, 1946. Raised on the family farms in rural Mount Pleasant, she graduated from Mount Pleasant Community High School in 1965. She, then, attended the University of Iowa where she met David K. Peterson of rural Alta, Iowa. They married on July 20, 1968, at the First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant. Two sons were born into their home. For over thirty-five years, Ruth and Dave owned and managed Peterson Rentals and the American Rental Center in Storm Lake.
In addition to many friends and other relatives, those left to mourn her loss include her husband, David; their sons, Chad, and his wife, Jenny, and their children, Alex and Ty, of Cedar Rapids; Patrick, and his wife, Charity, and their children: Hayley, Simon, Ruthie, and Archer, of Ankeny; and his brothers, Warren and Richard, both of rural Mount Pleasant. Ruth was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Charlotte Summers; and three brothers: Floyd, Clifford, and Stanford.
A June 16, 2018, gathering for family and friends will be held at her home at 709 Seville Court, Storm Lake, Iowa 50588, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
Ruth was a longtime advocate for the National Wildlife Society and would request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the National Wildlife Fund sent to the Storm Lake address.
