Louise M. Gutz
March 21, 1925 - January 5, 2018

Louise M. Gutz, age 92, of Omaha, Nebraska, and formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, January 5, 2018, at Heritage Pointe in Omaha.

A daughter of August and Lina (Rudi) Ziegler, Louise was born on March 21, 1925, in Lawton, Oklahoma. Baptized as an infant at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lawton, she was, later, confirmed there as well. She attended a rural grade school within walking distance of home and graduated from Elgin High School in 1943. She, then, continued her education at Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska, graduating with a Lutheran Teaching Diploma in 1946.

On August 8, 1948, Louise married Norman H. Gutz in Lawton. Subsequently, they were blessed with two daughters, Barbara and Anita. An active member of Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake, she served on the Ladies Aid Society, the Quilters, the Hispanic Outreach Ministry, and in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML).

Louise was at heart a teacher; besides teaching a year at Lutheran schools in Corpus Christi, Texas, and Grand Island, Nebraska, she taught Sunday School at Zion for fifty years. She, also, worked at H & R Block, preparing tax returns, and she did cooking at the Senior Center. In addition, she sewed quilt tops for the charity, the Orphan Grain Train, and she enjoyed reading and gardening. Most of all, however, she loved spending time with her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters: Barbara (Mike) Cook, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Anita (Shannon) Bathe, of Whitewater, Colorado; her grandchildren: Jenae Cook, of Broomfield, Colorado, Lisa Cook, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Joel (Mollie) Cook, of Fremont, Nebraska; her great grandchildren: Sydney Louise and Owen Michael Cook; her sisters: Barbara (Roy) Moore, of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Margaret (Herbert) Buckendahl, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her brother, August Ziegler, of Lawton, Oklahoma; and her sisters-in-law: Lois Gutz, Julie Gutz, Lenore Vogel, and Zelda Morse; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman; her brothers-in-law: Roy Moore, Gerhardt Gutz, Norton Morse, Bob Christensen; her sisters-in-law: Pauline Gutz, Victoria Christensen, and Vera Vallie; her nephew, Bernie Gutz; and her nieces: Teresa Wilson, Linda Hargrove, and Wanda Slaven.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place Tuesday, January 9, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the LWML or the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) Mission Central. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
