Edwin Henrich
August 21, 1929 - November 13, 2017

Surrounded by his family, Ed Henrich, age 88, of Newell, Iowa, passed away Monday morning, November 13, 2017, during his favorite season of the year, harvest.

Edwin Charles Henrich was born on August 21, 1929, on the family farm south of Newell. He was welcomed by his sister, Bernice, and his parents, Elwood and Zelia (McKeen) Henrich. A four-year letter winner in both basketball and baseball, he graduated from Newell High School in 1948. One of the leaders of the Newell team that advanced to state baseball tournaments in 1948, Ed received an invitation to try out for the New York Yankees. Instead, he attended Morningside College to play baseball and basketball and then joined his father on the family farm. Throughout his life until he retired, he enjoyed all aspects of farming.

A member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City, Ed married Marilyn on September 21, 1949, at Sacred Heart Church in Early, Iowa. Ed went on to play town team baseball for several years. Later, he became an excellent bowler. Indeed, at one time, he held a 229 average. He, also, enjoyed playing golf and watching all sports, especially when his children and grandchildren were participating. Everyone who knew him, enjoyed his quiet, dry sense of humor. A proud, lifelong resident of Newell, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ed is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Westcott); his sister, Bernice (Bris) Skiles, of Billings, Montana; his brother-in-law, Jerry (Pat) Westcott; his sisters-in-law, Teresa and Frances Westcott; his sons, Tom Henrich, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Mike Henrich, of Newell, Iowa, and James (Stacy) Henrich, of State Center, Iowa; his daughters, Sally Henrich, of Omaha, Nebraska, Cindy (Alan) Gibson, of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and Sara Eben, of Greeley, Colorado; his grandchildren: Chance Eben; Tracey (Mike) Fogarty; Payton (Steven) Fox; Ben, Cheyenne, Chris (Meghann), Jace (Mandy), and Reilly Henrich, Heather (Phil) Smith, Steven (Sarah) Seehusen, and Carlie (Chris) Weidner; and his great grandchildren: Novalyn Fogarty; Hannah Henrich; Andrew, Gabriel, and Lydia Seehusen; Quinn and Decker Smith, and Isla Weidner.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Susan Eakins, his son-in-law, Max Eakins, his daughter-in-law, Barbara (Bach) Henrich; and his brothers-in-law, Richard and Robert Westcott.
