April 2, 1932 ~ November 2, 2017 (age 85)

Doloris "Dee" Phillips, age 85, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Doloris (Darrow) Phillips, a daughter of Ralph and Zelda (Brown) Darrow, was born on April 2, 1932, in Colby, Kansas. For a number of years, her family resided both in Kansas and Nebraska. In 1937, however, they moved to Storm Lake, Iowa, where she attended grade school and high school.

On August 27, 1950, Dee married William Phillips at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. She was confirmed in her faith the same year. To their union, six children were born: Steve, Rick, Deb, Jim, Dale, and Dean. An active worker in her church, she taught Sunday and midweek school in addition to holding offices in the Ladies Aid Society. After her children had grown, Dee continued her education at Western Iowa Tech, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. Then, she worked as a surgical nurse at the Buena Vista County Hospital for eighteen years. After retiring, she and her husband enjoyed traveling.

Those left to cherish Dee’s memory include her husband, William Phillips, of Alta, Iowa; her children: Steve (Peg) Phillips, of Kernersville, North Carolina, Rick (Donna) Phillips, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Deb Phillips Erickson, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jim (Renee Ehrig) Phillips, of Sioux City, Iowa, Dale (Maribeth) Phillips, also of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Dean (Barb) Phillips, of Alta, Iowa; her grandchildren: Andy, Angela, April (Cody), Ashley (Dillon), Brad (Lori), Brandyn (Amanda), Chris (Tasha), Craig (Jennifer), Elisha (John), Geo (Nicki), J.J., Jodi (Steven), Joe (Jesse), Joshua, Katie, Katie (Matt), Keith, Keith (Cecelia), Krystal (Jason), Lucas, Matt (Ana), Michael (Brandi), Nicholas, Rebecca (Jake), and Willie; several great grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; a brother, Jack Darrow, of Albert City, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Marvin Miller, of Storm Lake, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Judy (John) Huber, of Ames, Iowa; as well as extended family members and friends.

Dee was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Zelda Darrow; her parents-in-law, William H. and Edith Phillips; a grandson, Nate Phillips; a sister, Betty Miller; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Darrow and Myrna Vigil.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Monday, November 6, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
