Betty "Corinne" Edwardson, age 92, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died on October 6, 2017, at her home in Sioux Rapids.

Betty Corinne Simonson, a daughter of Emma (Larson) and Johnie Simonson, was born at home on January 1, 1925, in Sioux Rapids. Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids, she attended school in Sioux Rapids, graduating from Sioux Rapids High School in 1942. On November 14, 1944, she married Norman Edwardson in Sioux Rapids. Two daughters, Lisa Marie and Lora Lee, were born to their union.

Throughout the years, Corinne worked in an insurance office, a lawyer’s office, and for the First State Bank of Sioux Rapids. In addition, she helped on the farm and loved growing both flowers and vegetables to provide for her family. She had a love of handwork as evident in all the beautiful items she made. For example, she loved to spin wool on her grandmother’s spinning wheel and make beautiful pieces including altar paraments for several Lutheran churches. Moreover, at Christmas time, she made the best Lefse!

A faithful and active member of the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids, Corinne played an active role in church affairs. She served on the Western Iowa Synod Council. Moreover, she looked forward each week to “going quilting” with the ladies from church. A charter member of the Siouan Chapter of Questers and a member of Chapter GJ PEO, she made her family and her church the center of her life. Indeed, she cherished the moments she could spend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. God blessed her with many talents, but mostly He blessed her with a kind and loving nature as all who knew her could attest. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. May God keep her in his loving care.

Those left to cherish her memory include her two daughters: Lisa, and her husband, Garold Becker, of Spencer, Iowa, and Lora, and her husband, Steve Johnson, of Linn Grove, Iowa; four grandchildren: Eric Becker; April (Becker) Rubeck, and her husband, Ryan; Sarah (Johnson) Ruhs, and her husband, Mike; and Lucas Johnson; three great grandchildren: Aylah Rubeck and Savannah and Sierra Ruhs; and a host of other relatives and friends. Corinne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman Edwardson; her brother, Wendell Simonson; and a great grandson, Roman Rubeck.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will follow in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place Tuesday, October 10, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is overseeing the arrangements.
