June 27, 1932 - September 24, 2017

Richard Thurman Krout, age 85, of Lakeside, Iowa, died on Sunday, September 24, 2017, at his home.

A son of Clarence “Bud” and Bessie (North) Krout, Richard was born on June 27, 1932, in Storm Lake, Iowa. He attended school in Marathon, graduating from Marathon High School. In November of 1952, he joined the United States Army. After proudly serving his country during the Korean War, he was, honorably, discharged in October of 1954. On June 16, 1955, he married Judith Ann Cash in Laurens. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children, Terri and Jim.

A member of the Alta VFW Post #6172, Richard enjoyed fishing with his son, Jim, hunting, doing yard work, and watching westerns. An avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, he, also, enjoyed taking care of his home and cars. Most of all, however, he loved spending time with his family and will be, deeply, missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Judith Krout, of Lakeside, Iowa; his children, Jim Krout, of Spencer, Iowa, and Terri (Mark) Rebhuhn, of Marathon, Iowa; his grandchildren, Michaela Boyd (Nick Simmons) and Holly Boyd; his great grandson, Trey Boyd; and his sister, Betty Kuhn, of Cherokee, Iowa; as well as extended family members and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Tom Krout; and his sister, Mary Peterson.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Storm Lake Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. with full military rites conducted by the Alta VFW Post #6172.
