Richard (Dick) Eugene Hogrefe
March 30, 1943 - September 18, 2017

After a prolonged illness with Parkinson’s disease, Richard (Dick) Eugene Hogrefe, 74, died on Monday, September 18, 2017, in Gardnerville, Nevada.

A son of Harold and Helen Zwemke Hogrefe, he was born on March 30, 1943, in Storm Lake. In 1961, he graduated from the Alta Community High School. He, then, worked as a brakeman on the Illinois Central Railroad in Cherokee. In June 1964, Richard married Virginia (Ginger) Elizabeth Blessing, a daughter of Robert and Mary Blessing formally of South Sioux City, Nebraska. Richard and Virginia, then, relocated to San Jose, California, in 1965 where he began working first for International Business Machines (IBM) and later for Computer Science Corporation (CSC).

Richard treasured his family. He and Virginia had two children, a daughter, Michelle Hogrefe, and a son Matthew (Kathrine) Hogrefe. Michelle has two sons, Jacob and Chase, of San Jose, California. Mathew, also, has two sons, Ryan and Zachary, of Johns Creek, Georgia. Richard enjoyed living near the Sierra Nevada Mountains where he could spend time with his children and grand‐children. A friend to everyone he met, he had many friends and acquaintances and will be dearly missed by all.

Preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Helen Hogrefe, as well as by his in‐laws, Robert and Mary Blessing. and his brothers‐in‐law, Ronald Chandler and Richard Blessing, Richard is survived by his wife, Virginia; his children, Michelle and Matthew; his grandchildren, Jacob, Chase, Ryan, and Zachary; his brother, Harlan (Norma) Hogrefe; his sister, Diane Chandler; his sister‐in‐law, Elaine (Roy) Paradise; as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

A ‘Celebration of Life’ memorial is planned in His remembrance at a later date. The Walton Funeral Home and Crematorium in Gardnerville, Nevada, assisted the family.
