July 18, 1959 - August 26, 2017

Henry James Schnetter, age 58, of Sioux City, Iowa, and formerly of Alta, Iowa, died on August 26, 2017, at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City.

A son of Robert and Malvena (Sievert) Schnetter, Henry was born on July 18, 1959, in Storm Lake, Iowa. Baptized as an infant in Pocahontas, he, also, attended school in Pocahontas until the third grade when he transferred to the Alta elementary school. Then, in 1978, he graduated from Alta High School. While attending high school, he worked at Melander’s in Alta part-time and ran a milk route for Johnny Adams as well. On October 2, 1982, Henry married Sonja Stange. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children: Berry and Robert. On April 1, 2011, he married Mitzi Banes. They were blessed with a daughter, Nancy, who passed away as an infant.

Henry worked on the Bauman Shows from 1971-1980. Next, he co-owned and operated Schnetter Amusements from 1981-1994. Also a truck driver for many years, he worked for Frank Welde in Anthon and Oto, Iowa, Tabkey in Moville, Iowa, and Flatbed Services in Sioux City, Iowa. In addition, he worked at Friesen’s in Storm Lake and for the City of Denton, Texas. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and camping. Moreover, he loved wood working and scrapping metal. Most important, however, he treasured his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mitzi Banes, of Sioux City, Iowa; his children, Berry Schnetter, of Ames, Iowa, and Robert (special friend, Michelle Bade) of Westminster, Colorado; his mother, Malvena Schnetter, of Alta, Iowa; his brothers, John Smith (friend, Lola Wilkening), of Olathe, Kansas; Robert (Marcia) Smith, of Alta, Iowa, Don (Twyla) Smith, of Laurens, Iowa, and Fred Schnetter, of Alta, Iowa; his sister, Sue (Dennis) Warner, of Alta, Iowa; and a friend, Dean McDermott, of Anthon, Iowa; as well as nieces; nephews; extended family members, and many friends.

Henry was preceded in death by his father, Robert Schnetter; infant daughter, Nancy Schnetter; and his uncles: Dennis Schnetter; Al, Charles, Wilbert, Richard, and Lawrence Sievert; and Gus and Ruby Strandberg.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 1, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta. Visitation will take place Thursday, August 31, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta is in charge of the arrangements.
