Darlene A. Moore, age 89, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Sunday, September 3, 2017, at her home in Storm Lake.

Darlene A. Reiling was born on July 26, 1928, to Theo and Anna (Lamberty) Reiling on a farm at Mount Carmel, Carroll County, Iowa. In 1935, however, the family moved to the Carroll area. After completing her education, she worked at Omaha Cold Storage before she married Albert Roy Moore from Glidden. They wedded on January 15, 1947, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Maple River, Iowa, with Fr. Mattes officiating. They, then, lived in Glidden until 1952 when they moved to Storm Lake. For three years, Darlene worked at Vilas Turkey Processing. In 1967, she started working at Roy’s Auto Service, a job she held until 1992. In addition, she worked for the Hot Lunch Program at St. Mary’s from 1986 to 1992.

A member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Darlene served as an usher and money counter for many years. Indeed, she volunteered for many projects within the church. A member of the St. Mary’s Guild, she served as chair lady many times. She, also, served as a Eucharistic Minister to residents at the Buena Vista Manor for eight years.

Darlene liked to travel, and took many trips after she retired in 1992. She loved tailoring suits for Roy, and she sewed many wedding and prom dresses. In addition, she upholstered many pieces of furniture and did all of her own painting, wall papering, and home decorating.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters: Shirley (Tom) Boje, of Omaha, Nebraska, Irene (Daniel) Jensen, of Louisville, Nebraska, Phyllis (Ron) Roelfs, of Ankeny, Iowa, Pat (David) Kastengren, of Cherokee, Iowa, and Tracey (David) Plorins, of Waukee, Iowa; her sons: Richard (Patti) Moore, of Olathe, Kansas, Michael (Susan) Moore, of Carroll, Iowa, and Ken (Sabrina) Moore, of Cherokee, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; her brother, Don (Rosie) Reiling, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her sister, Agnes (Ray) Pottebaum, of Anita, Iowa; her brother-in-law, Ray Huegerich, of Lake View, Iowa; and her sisters-in-law, Jean Patrick and Juanita Gilroy; as well as extended family and friends. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert Roy; an infant brother, Ronald; her brother, Ray (Bernadine) Reiling; and her sisters: Rosemary Huegerich and Dorothy Dales Huegerich.

A Funeral Mass will be offered Thursday, September 7, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery also in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Wednesday, September 6, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a recitation of the rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
