March 20, 1928 - August 10, 2017

Verona D. Koth, age 89, of Galva, Iowa, died on Thursday, August 10, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society in Holstein, Iowa.

Verona D. Wogahn was born to Henry and Doretta (Hasenwinkle) Wogahn on March 20, 1928, in Cherokee County, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aurelia, Iowa, she graduated from Aurelia High School and worked as a telephone operator in Cherokee. On February 14, 1949, she married Arnold Koth. Their union was blessed with five children: Steve, Brad, Jeff, Kevin, and Melissa.

Verona enjoyed cooking, crocheting, bowling, fishing, being on the farm, and spending time with family and friends. A member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hanover, the Ladies Aid Society, and the church quilting group, she will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend to many. Without a doubt, she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons: Steve (Carmen) Koth, of Holstein, Iowa, Brad (Darla) Koth, of Alta, Iowa, Jeff (Shari Kieffer) Koth, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Kevin (Joanne) Koth, of Le Mars, Iowa; her daughter, Melissa (Denton) Hansen, of Alta, Iowa; her grandchildren: Caleb Campbell, Laramie (Greg) Kelly, Kendra (Derek) Wall, Kameron (Cheri) Koth, Joshua (Traci Kauphusman) Ploetz, Stephanie (Adam) Oehler, Jason (Angie) Ploetz, Michael Koth (special friend, Alicia Klett); Kayla (Darren) Kriener; Kyle Koth (fiancée, Amy Johnson); Thomas (Stephanie) Hansen; and Aaron (Kelsey) Hansen; her great grandchildren: Harriett Campbell, Erin and Grace Kelly, Brant and Tracin Price; Teagan, Benson, Skyler, Averie, and Waylon Koth; Jack, Peter, Mercedes, and Roman Kauphusman; Cabe and Barrett Oehler; Jakoby Reyez; Savannah Ploetz; Alyssa and Audrey Kriener; Payton, Harpper, and Hayden Koth; and Braylon Hansen; her brother, Wilbur (Sally) Wogahn, of Sarasota, Florida; and her sister, Caroline Stellato, of New Haven, Connecticut; as well as extended family members and friends. Verona was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold; her sisters, Ruth Sparks and Lela Koth; her brother, Paul Wogahn; and her granddaughter, Stephanie Ploetz.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 14, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hanover. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place Sunday, August 13, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta is overseeing the arrangements.
