Stephen L. Sauer, 73, of Walker, Iowa died Friday morning, May 13, 2016 at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, Iowa.

Stephen was born on August 17, 1942 in Liberty Township near Coggon, Iowa the son of Earnest G and Vesta A. (Smith) Sauer. He was a 1961 graduate of the Brandon High School, Brandon, Iowa. On April 5, 1975 he married Karen K. Rommann in the Hope Wesleyan Church, Independence, Iowa. The couple lived south of Independence, Iowa until moving to Walker, Iowa in 1976. Stephen was also employed with Iowa Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and as a mechanic with Rowley Equipment, Rowley, IA.

Stephen enjoyed fishing but his love was in farming and working on the farm machinery.

He is survived by his wife Karen Sauer, Walker, IA, a daughter; Stephania Sauer, Maquoketa, IA, and a step-daughter: Judy (Brian) Bries, Norway, IA. Four Grandchildren: Colton Craig, Aydan Rickels, Kristopher and Brody Bries. Three sisters; Frances Grabau, Central City, IA, Judy Wood, Fairfax, IA Linda Rodby, North English, IA, and a brother; Raymond Sauer, Bondurant, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Earnest and Vesta Sauer, a son; Christopher Sauer, and three brothers; Eldon, David, and Rickey Sauer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, May 19th, at the Walker United Methodist Church, Walker, IA, with Rev. Mark Morehouse officiating. Burial will be in the Circle Grove Cemetery, Rural Walker, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, Iowa and from 9 AM till services Thursday at the church.
