Edward Lynn Wiggins, 85, of Independence, IA, died on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at his home in Independence.

Edward was born December 30, 1936, in rural North English, Iowa son of Frederic L. and Margaret (White) Wiggins. Edward started country school until 7th grade then attended school in North English, Iowa. In August of 1952, Edward was diagnosed with polio. After home care, Edward graduated high school in 1954 with no ill effects from the disease. After graduation Edward enlisted in the US Air force serving in Texas, Japan, and Kansas. He was honorably discharged in 1958 and received several letters of recommendation from his Commanding Officer.

In 1959 Edward married Karen Abernathy in Vinton, Iowa. Four children were born into this union Brenda, Bob, Brad, and Bridget. They later divorced.

In 1972, Edward married Jeanne Elaine Tysdal in Sioux Falls, SD. Three children were born into this union Jennifer, Angela, and Justin. Edward was stepfather to Stanley and Trisha Herndon.

Edward worked in the Agronomy business for over 30 years. He was an active member of the town council and was a Mayor of Ledyard, IA.

He is survived by his wife of fifty years Jeanne Wiggins, Independence, IA, his children; Brenda (Chris) Ludlow, Norwalk, IA, Bob Wiggins, Des Moines, IA, Brad (Renee) Wiggins, St. Paul, MN, Bridget (Ted) Bleimehl, Des Moines, IA, Stanley (Heidi) Herndon, Ft. Dodge, IA, Trisha Herndon Salt Lake, UT, Jennifer (Troy) Long, Waverly, IA, Angela Lynch, Independence, IA, and Justin Wiggins, Independence, IA, thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and a nephew, Mike Wiggins, Stoddard, WI.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Frederic and Margaret Wiggins, and a brother, James Wiggins.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory, with Rev. Paul Evans presiding. Visitation will be held from 10 am until 1 PM on Saturday at the Funeral Home.
