Chester “Chet” Rosauer, 83, of Independence, IA, died on Thursday October 7, 2021 at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, IA.

Chet was born on January 18, 1938 in Lawler, IA the son of Carl and Rita (Baltes) Rosauer. After graduating from Lawler High School in 1957 he went on to Waterloo Barber College. He graduated in 1958 and started working at Scanlon Barber Shop in Independence, IA. On October 14, 1961, he married Frances Marie Sullivan at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waterloo, IA. They made their home in Independence. Scanlon Barber shop became Dean’s Barber Shop shortly after Chet was married and he continued to work there for over ten years. He went on to work for Corn Blossom’s Meat packing and later the Mental Health Institute in Independence. He continued to work until his 70’s and finally retired in 2008.

From supporting his sons in their interests, to spending time with his grandchildren, to attending every family function they could; Chet made his family his world. He loved his dogs, and plants. He would spend hours working in his yard to make sure it was perfect.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Rosauer, Independence, IA, two sons, Jeff (Mary Beth) Rosauer, Mantua, NJ, and Joel Rosauer, Marion, IA, four grandchildren; Reily, Cameron, Ceclia, and Alice Rosauer, five sisters; Joan (Dennis) King, Gladbrook, IA, Ruth (Gary) Lienmann, Nashua, IA, Sharon Fobian, Cedar Falls, IA, Helen Beane, Bedford, TX, and Mary Lou (Paul) Nelson, Louisville, KY, four brothers; Bill Rosauer, Allison, IA, Allan Rosauer, Cedar Falls, IA, Lee Rosauer, Bedford, IA, and David (Jolene) Rosauer, Sac City, IA, a brother-in-law, Joe Marchiando, Aurora, IA, and many nieces and nephews.

Chet is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Rita Rosauer, a brother Charles (Irma) Rosauer, a sister Lucy Marchiando, two sisters-in-law, Ilene and Lynn Rosauer, and a brother-in-law Gary Fobian.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday October 14, 2021 at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence, IA with Rev. Paul McManus presiding and Rev. Mr. Timothy Post Concelebrating. Burial will be held at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Independence. Visitation will be held from 4 PM until 7PM on Wednesday October 13, 2021 at the Reiff Family Center - Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence. A Rosary will be said at 4 PM.
