Ethel B. Sperfslage, 88, of Winthrop, Iowa, died Friday afternoon, July 9, 2021, at the Good Neighbor Society in Manchester, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Monti, Iowa with Rev. David M. Beckman officiating.

Visitation: 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, July 12, 2021, at the Monti Hall in Monti and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Monti Hall.

Rosary Service: 3:45 P.M. Monday at the Monti Hall.

Interment: St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Monti.

Fawcett-Schmitz Funeral Home in Winthrop is assisting the family.

Ethel Bertha Greiner was born August 28, 1932, in Hopkinton, Iowa, the daughter of Leo J. and Hilda (Nachtman) Greiner. On September 11, 1950, she was united in marriage to Richard William “Dick” Sperfslage at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earlville. Ethel and Dick farmed near Earlville in 1951 for one year, then Ryan from 1952 to 1959, until moving to their farm near Monti, where they farmed for many years. In 2010, after Dick’s death, Ethel moved to Independence. She was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Monti. Ethel was extremely proud of her 13 children she raised and all their accomplishments. She enjoyed cleaning the Monti Church, raising chickens, gardening, cooking, baking, canning, puzzles and making wine.

Ethel is survived by her 7 sons: David (Coleen) Sperfslage of Winthrop, Dan (Diane) Sperfslage of Aurora, Dennis Sperfslage of Independence, Roger (Shelley) Sperfslage of Winthrop, Don (Verna) Sperfslage of Winthrop, Richard (Wendy) Sperfslage of Winthrop and Dean (Dana) Sperfslage of Edgewood; 5 daughters: Ruth Ann (Jim) Mangold of Coggon, Rita (Bob) Knutson of Rowley, Rose Mary (Steve) Schmock of Manchester, Diane (Dean) Stone of Oelwein and Darleen (Rich) Espe of Oelwein; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren; and sister-in-law: JoAnn Greiner of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Richard on February 9, 2010; son: Rodney Sperfslage; 4 grandchildren: Michael Mangold, Jason Mangold, Nicholas Sperfslage and Eli Leitz; brother: Lawrence Greiner; and 3 sisters: Mary Greiner at infancy, Eileen Bildstein and Betty Willenborg.
