Verna A. Towne dies at Vinton hospital

BRANDON - Vern A. Towne, 78, died early this morning at the Virginia Gay Hospital.

She was born Feb. 5, 1902 near Rowley, a daughter of Ray and Vedia Benion Stanford, and married Virgil Towne, Jan. 31, 1923, at Waterloo. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Brandon and Jolly 16 Card Club.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Lyle, of La Porte City; one daughter, Mrs. Kessler (Berniece) Clark, of Brandon; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Laurence (Ivadell) Benion of Center Point, Mrs. George (Josephine) Young of Waterloo and Mrs. Marion (Betty) Price of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by two sons, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Methodist Church in Brandon, with the Rev. Gerald Allsup officiating. Burial will be in the Brandon Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton after noon Saturday and at the church after noon Sunday.
