Albert P. “Al” Dresen, 97, of Oelwein, Iowa died Saturday evening, December 19, 2020 at MercyOne Oelwein Senior Care in Oelwein, Iowa.

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Josh Schunk officiating.

Visitation: 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at the church.

Inurnment: At a later date in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein with military honors.

The funeral service will be livestreamed on Zion Lutheran Church Facebook Page.

Memorials may be directed in his name to Zion Lutheran Church, Oelwein.

The Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein is assisting the family.

Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings and the recent surge in the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing will be required. Those in attendance are required to wear a mask. We encourage relatives and friends not able to attend the service to reach out to the family by leaving a message on the funeral home web site, by mail, text or phone.

Albert Peter Dresen was born July 20, 1923 at Cassville, Wisconsin, the son of Chris and Freda Dresen. He graduated from high school in Dell Rapids, South Dakota. Al proudly served three years and three months in the United States Navy during World War II. On May 6, 1946, he was united in marriage to Luella Verna “Lou” Bietz in Pipestone, Minnesota. Al worked for Ford Tractor Distributors in Sioux Falls, South Dakota from 1947 to 1956. Ford Motor Company Tractor and Implement Division from January 1956 to November of 1968. Ford Car Dealership as sales manager from November 1968 to January 1973. He then moved his family to Oelwein, where he worked for Koehring Farm Division from January 1973 to 1982 and Balzer Farm Implement from 1982 until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Ross Reid American Legion Post #9 Honor Guard of Oelwein. Al enjoyed watching the Hawkeyes, fishing, his cat “Cat” and his grandchildren.

Al is survived by his daughter: Nancy Fritz of Faribault, Minnesota; son: Tim (Deb) Dresen of Oelwein; 5 grandchildren: Kristen (Antonio) Walley of Farmington, Minnesota, Joe Fritz of Faribault, Minnesota, Elizabeth Fritz of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Karlee (Nate) Weidemann of Oelwein and T.J. (Ashley) Jackson of Center Point; 3 great grandchildren: Olivia Mae Walley, Scarlett Jackson and Stella Jackson; and a sister: Bev of Connecticut.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Lou on June 1, 2014; son: Thomas on November 14, 2009; and 2 brothers: Edward and Duane Dresen.
