Maxine J. Halstead, 82, of Cedar Rapids, formally of Quasqueton, IA died Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Maxine was born on March 17, 1936 in Eldora, IA, the daughter of Lowell and Bessie (Hellyer) Oaks. Her family moved throughout Iowa and Missouri when she was a child. In 1953 Maxine graduated from Quasqueton High School and on October 24, 1954 she married Jon Russell Halstead at the Quasqueton Union Church. They made their home in Cedar Rapids where Maxine worked as a teletype operator for Cargill before they returned to Quasqueton to farm. When her children reached school age, Maxine went to work for Rockwell Collins where she worked in the white room for 34 years. In 1989, Jon and Maxine retired from farming and moved to Marion, IA.

She is survived by her two children, Nancy (Allan Stewart) Halstead of Iowa City and Richard (Anet Overby) Halstead of Berkeley, CA, and a grandson Simon Halstead of Berkeley. Maxine is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jon R. Halstead.

Maxine will be missed greatly by those who knew her gentle heart.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday December 5, 2018 at the Quasqueton Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Jennings officiating.
