Mrs. Lena Payne Dies; Funeral Is Held at Aurora
Funeral services were held at Aurora Sunday afternoon, July 6 for Mrs. Lena Payne who died at the Nibeck Nursing home at Hazleton Thursday evening. The Rev. Fred Diedtrieck, pastor, was in charge of the service. Music was sung by Mary Sue and Marsha Hoaglan, accompanied by their mother, Mrs. Paul Hoaglan. Burial was in the Madison cemetery.
Pauline Payne, eldest daughter of Hilmer M. and Delilah L. Nibeck, was born August 9, 1891 in Liberty township near Independence and she died July 3, 1958, at the age of 66.
Her childhood was spent on a farm south of Aurora and in Hazleton. She received her high school education and was graduated in Hazleton with the class of 1908. She attended I.S.T.C. and taught school in a one room school house in Buchanan county until her marriage.
On Nov. 27, 1912, she was united in marriage with Cliff Payne of Winthrop at the home of her parents. To this union three children were born; F.H., Ralph and Thelma (Mrs. Clark Coberly). She was a member of the Baptist church, Women's Relief corp, American Legion Auxiliary.
After Cliff passed away, she made her home with her sister and brother-in-law, Odessia and Charlie Young, at Independence for a time, then went to the L.M.N. Nursing home in Hazleton, owned by her sister, Leora Nibeck. She lived there until her death in 1958.
Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother and her husband. Surviving are two sons, F.H. Payne, Aurora, Ralph Payne of Kayenta, Ariz., and one daughter, Mrs. Thelma Coberly of Englewood, Colo., 14 grandchildren, one great-grandson, two sisters, Mrs. Charles Young of Independence and Miss Leora Nibeck, Winthrop.
