Shirley A. Everett, 66 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, July 31, 2017, at her home in Independence. She was born on February 18, 1951, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd Roosevelt and Martha Kathryn (Schmidt) Bergom. She graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1968. On July 7, 1968, she and Kenneth Clair Everett were married at the Presbyterian Church in Hazleton, Iowa. Mrs. Everett worked at the Mental Health Institute in Independence for 30 years. At the time of her retirement, she was a resident treatment worker. She was a member of 1st Baptist Church in Independence and enjoyed time spent shopping, cooking, and visiting with friends. She was named to the Independence Bowling Hall of Fame. She was a league bowler for many years and was able to represent Iowa at a National Bowling Tournament in Reno, Nevada.

Mrs. Everett is survived by her husband of 49 years, Kenneth, 1 daughter, Penny (Adam Garcia) Everett of Independence and 1 grandson, Dylan Garcia. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Coletta (Don) Benter of Independence, Iowa, and Eula (John) Risley of Mayflower, Arkansas, and 2 brothers, Duane (Dee) Bergom of Independence, Iowa, and Doug (Sheila) Bergom of Quitman, Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, Kenneth Everett, 2 brothers, Leon Bergom and Don Bergom, and a cousin who was raised by her parents, William Schmidt, Jr.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at the 1st Baptist Church in Independence with Pastor Mike Nemmers officiating.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
