Imelda Margarette “Mel” Bohling, 88 years old, of Jesup, IA, died Sunday, June 18, 2017 at Prairie Hills Assisted Living, Independence, IA, of natural causes.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. - Thursday, June 22, 2017, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA, with Fr. Lloyd Reuter as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery, Jesup, IA.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 21, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church where there will be a parish rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before services, Thursday, at the church. Memorials will be directed to the church.

Mel was born June 25, 1928 the daughter of Edward Niemann and Kathryn Anna (Wilson) Niemann in Sumner, IA. She graduated from Jesup High School with the class of 1946. On June 5, 1951, she was united in marriage to Stanley Dale Bohling at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup, IA. Mel worked with her husband as an owner and operator of Stan’s APCO Service Station in Jesup. She was also a bookkeeper for Black’s Department Store in Waterloo, IA.

Spending time with family was important to Mel. She loved to go camping and was an active den mother with the Cub Scouts. She also enjoyed reading and trying her hand at many artistic hobbies throughout the years. Mel was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church and the Parish Society.

Mel is survived by her 2 sons, David Bohling of Lexington, MO, and Donald (Marla) Bohling of Jesup, IA; 2 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Dorothy Niichel of Portland, OR, and Dolores Conrad of Brandon, IA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley in 2016; 2 brothers, Raymond Niemann, Lawrence Niemann; and 1 sister in infancy, Daphine Niemann.
