James Kent Arnold Sr.

James Kent Arnold was born June 25, 1941 at Independence, Iowa the son of Melvin and Mary Alice Jenkins Arnold. Jim attended Winthrop schools through tenth grade, when the family moved to Phoenix, AZ. He then graduated from Camelback High School in Phoenix with the class of 1959.

Jim was married to Madeline Carol Kingsley on March 11, 1961 and to this union were born two sons: James Jr. and Scott . They moved back to Iowa in 1962 and later they divorced.
Jim was united in marriage to Shirley Mott on August 17, 1973 at Galena, Illinois. They lived northwest of Winthrop and farmed the Arnold farm until his retirement in 2008.

Jim was very active in community activities. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and served as a county board member, he was on the Pork Producers Board, served 24 years as an REC director, served on several Church boards at the Church of Christ United in Winthrop, was a charter member of the Two cylinder tractor club, was Byron Township Trustee and Clerk for years, and was a member of Masonic Lodge #87 for many years. He loved going on tractor cades, camping and anything John Deere Green.

James Arnold Sr., 74, entered into his eternal rest on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at his rural Winthrop farm home.

He is survived by his wife Shirley of Winthrop; six children: James (Sheri) Kent Arnold Jr. of Independence; Scott J. (Angela) Arnold of Altoona, IA; James (Meshell) Hawkins of Independence; Michael Hawkins of Sacramento, CA; Christine (John) Kerkove of Independence; and Sue Ann (Ron) Hoefer of Masonville; fourteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and his brother Robert Arnold of Somerville, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister-in-law Mary Arnold and his nephew David Arnold.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, April 18, 2016 at the Church of Christ United in Winthrop with Pastor Dean Schlitter officiating. Honorary bearers will be: Bud Conrad, Glen Peck, Chuck Tempus, Dale Griswold, Harold Gillette, and Rodney Schabacker. Inurnment will take place at Fremont Township Cemetery north of Winthrop.

Friends may call from 2 PM until 5 PM on Sunday, April 17 at Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop where a Masonic service will begin at 5 PM. Friends may also call on Monday at the Church after 9:30 A.M.. Memorials for Cancer and the Church of Christ United may be directed to the family.
