Independence, Ia., Nov. 4. – Special: The many friends in this city were shocked Monday to learn of the death of George Hardwick, a former resident of Westbury Township, in Chicago. Mr. Hardwick had been in failing health for some time and had gone to Chicago, where he underwent a serious operation. He is the son of one of the pioneer families of this county. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hardwick, and they settled on a farm west of Jesup in an early day, and since that time the Hardwick name has been identified with the progress of the farming industry in Buchanan County.

The body was brought to Jesup where funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Baptist Church there.
