Gary L. Fousek, 70, Independence, Iowa died Friday afternoon,January 27, 2017 at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein,Iowa.

Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Floral Hills Funeral Home, rural Oelwein.Inurnment will be at a later date. Floral Hills Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, rural Oelwein is assisting the family.

Gary Lee Fousek was born January 10, 1947, at Monona, Iowa the son of Clare Mathias and Nira Eileen (Ohl) Fousek. He graduated from Oelwein High School. He was employed at several jobs including custodian at Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein. Gary was a member of the Oran United Methodist Church and AA, a friend of Bill W. for 24 years. He enjoyed fishing, puzzles, woodworking, cribbage and spending time with his family.

Gary is survived by his daughter: Amy Smith of Hazleton; son: Vance (Debby) Fousek of Oelwein; 8 grandchildren and 1 on the way; 12 great grandchildren and 1 on the way; and a sister: Sandra Fousek of Worthington.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; step grandfather and parents.
