Marjorie A. Young, 90, of Aurora, Iowa, entered into her eternal rest on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at her home in Aurora.

Marjorie Adelia Young was born and baptized on July 9, 1926, the daughter of Elmer and Mildred Schmidt Kregel on the family farm near Garnavillo, Iowa. She attended the local schools graduating with the class of 1944 from Garnavillo High School. In 1948, she graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with her bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences. She taught school at Garrison, Iowa, for two years.

Marjorie was united in marriage to Byron Young on June 18, 1950, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Garnavillo. To this union were born five children: Rosalind, Marguerite, Mark, David, and Gregory. They family farmed at various places including Garrison and Aurora for the next 41 years. In 1991, they retired and moved into Aurora, Iowa. Being an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aurora, she played the organ and piano at many services.

As a loving mother and farm wife, she canned, baked, and cooked for her family, as well as worked on the farm right along with Byron. Her many hobbies included reading, crocheting, knitting, and doing crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her devoted husband, Byron, with whom she had enjoyed 66 years of marriage;, her five children: Rosalind Young of Oelwein, IA; Marguerite (Ken) Hawcott of Nevada, IA; Mark (Denise) Young of Knoxville, IA; David (Tami) Young of Aurora; and Gregory Young of Walford, IA; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one granddaughter, Amelia Young; and two sisters: Kathleen Swanson and Eunice Johnson.

A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Comfort and the Kidney Foundation.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, January 17, 2017, in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Aurora, with Rev. Patricia Shaw officiating and Rosalind Young providing music. Her Casketbearers will be grandsons: Ben Hawcott, James Hawcott, Lucas Young, Adam Young, Grant Young, and Christopher Young. Interment will be in the Union Church Cemetery, north of Aurora.

Visitation will be Monday, January 16, 2017, from 4 PM until 7 PM at Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop, Iowa, and Tuesday, January 17, 2017, after 9:30 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aurora.
