INDEPENDENCE – Shirley J. Rosene, 88, of Independence, Iowa formally of Rowley, Iowa died Saturday morning, May 21, 2016 at the ABCM Rehabilitation Center's West Campus in Independence.

Shirley was born on Dec. 18, 1927 in Independence, the daughter of Harold F. and Estella (Hughes) Grant. She graduated from Independence High School in 1945, and went on to marry the love of her life; Norman F. Rosene on March 30, 1947 at the United Methodist Church in Independence.

They made their home in rural Rowley, for many years, before moving back to Independence in 2013. Shirley enjoyed playing cards and dancing with the Merry Mixers, and loved to travel with Norman south for the winters.

She is survived by her husband Norman Rosene, Independence; three children: Bruce (Cathy) Rosene, Rowley, Lynnette (Marshall) Lantz, Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Connie (Ron) Bergman, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one niece, Patty Schabo.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters: Frances Trumbauer, and Erma Schabo.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, with Rev. Lisa Thedens officiating.

Inurnment will be in Rowley Cemetery, Rowley, at a later date.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to services Thursday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence.
