INDEPENDENCE – Ronald W. "Butch" Butters, 74, of Independence, IA, died Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at his home in Independence, Iowa.

Butch was born on August 8, 1942 in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Edgar R. and Evelyn E. (Maire) Butters. He was raised in Independence, where he attended high school. On May 14, 1979 Butch married Lois Dalzell at the Black Hawk County Courthouse and they made their home in Independence. Butch owned and operated a plumbing business for many years.

He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed the outdoors, ham radios, and most of all spending time with his kids.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lois, Independence; six children: Mark (Dana) Forrester, Cedar Falls, Dawn (Larry) Miller, Rowley, Shawn (Arvin) Fertch, Waterloo, Margie Simonson, Waterloo, Melissa (Eric) Keating, Independence, and Apryl (Adam) Butters, Oelwein; fourteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother, Robert Butters, Otterville; two sisters: Shirley Butters, Evansdale, and Rita Butters, Waterloo.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters: Rosie Kirkbride, Patty Hanna, Darlene Butters, and Kathy Mueller.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, August 15, 2016 at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, and from 9 a.m. till services on Monday.
