Charles W. King, Sr., 75, of Independence, Iowa died Tuesday morning, September 20, 2016 at the Unity Point –St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Charles was born on July 4, 1941 in Oil City, PA the son of Bud and Julia (Cornish) King. At the age of ten he moved with his family to Chicago, Illinois. He served with the US Military until his discharge at which time he came to Independence, IA. He was employed as a CNC Operator with the John Deere Company in Waterloo, Iowa until his retirement in 2001.

He was a member of the Living Water Church in Independence. He loved to fish and spending time with his family.

He is survived by seven children; Bonnie (Ben) Close, Tammy King, Kim Armstead, Charles (Jane) King, Jr, and Wayne King all of Independence, IA, Ricky (Ceara) King, Limestone, IA, and Crystal Hein of Jacksonville, FL. Eighteen grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren, and three brothers; Jim Slater of Minnesota, Jack King, Oil City, PA, and John King, Chicago, Illinois.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Alice Phillips, and Louise King, and five brothers; Frank, Emery, Elmer, Richard and Harold King.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, Iowa with Rev. John Sheda officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 Am till services Thursday.
