Kenneth E. Krattenmaker, 84, of Independence, Iowa died Sunday, July 26, 2015 at his home in Independence.

Ken was born on September 30, 1930 in Murdock, Minnesota the son of Edward and Alice (Osterbauer) Krattenmaker. He was raised in the Benson, Minnesota area and graduated from the Benson High School. He served as a Corporal with the US Army from June 19, 1952 thru January 21, 1954. On November 5, 1965 he was married to Dencil M. Wilts and the couple lived in Minnesota until moving to Wisconsin Rapids in 1964. In 1976 the family moved to Independence, Iowa and Ken became the agency manager with Modern Woodman Insurance Company until his retirement in 2001.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed motorcycle and snowmobile riding, and was a staunch Green Bay Packer and Iowa Hawkeye Fan. He was a member of the Independence VFW, and the Shriners.

He is survived by his wife Dencil Krattenmaker, Independence, IA, five children; Linda (Tom) Garberick, Sartell, MN, Kirk (Jill) Champlin, Annandale, MN, Cory Champlin, Independence, IA, Jon Krattenmaker, Darwin, MN, Kim (Norbert) Heinen, Independence, IA. Eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, a brother; Robert Krattenmaker, Brainerd, MN, and a sister; Margie Beier, Waconia, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Delores Iverson and Mary Berger, and a brother; Tom Krattenmaker.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence, IA with Rev. Don Plamondon officiating.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 3 to 7 PM Wednesday and from 8 AM till 10AM Thursday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, where a Rosary will be recited at 3 PM, a Military Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 PM, followed by a Parish Vigil Service at 7 PM Wednesday.
