Larry Jess “Hare” Price, 70 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, September 19, 2011, at the Buchanan County Health Center LTC in Independence.

He was born on November 11, 1940, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Jesse Willard and Jean Dana (Bantz) Price. He graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1959 and then served in Berlin, Germany, with the U.S. Army. On May 29, 1965, he and the former Judy Kay Neith were married at the First Methodist Church in Independence. Mr. Price farmed and also worked at the John Deere Company in Waterloo. He retired in 1993 after 30 years with the company. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence, the Bechter-Boies V.F.W. Post #2440, the Shysters, the U.A.W. Local #838, and the 2 Cylinder Club. Mr. Price enjoyed spending time restoring and collecting 2 cylinder John Deere tractors.

Mr. Price is survived by his wife of 46 years, Judy; 1 daughter, Penny (Denis) Sailer of Hiawatha, Iowa; 1 son, Steven (Dannell) Price of Independence, Iowa; and 4 grandchildren, Stephanie, Jenna, Sean, and Ethan. He is also survived by 1 brother, Jim “Hank” (Elaine) Price and 1 sister, Kathy “Otie” Price, both of Independence.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence with Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Music will be provided by Mrs. Leo Schubich, organist, and Mr. Luke Crawford, vocal soloist. Nels Wehner will be an Honorary Casket Bearer. Casket Bearers will be Gary Price, Craig Price, Keith Crawford, Scott Buzynski, Ron Bantz, and Dennis Albert. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a Military Service will begin at 7 p.m.
