Independence – Matrona E. Moroney, 93, of Independence and formerly of the Monti, Iowa area died Tuesday afternoon, September 22, 2009 at the Buchanan County Long Term Care Center in Independence.

Matrona was born on April 23, 1916, near Ryan, Iowa the daughter of Ray and Mamie (Reagan) Keegan. She graduated from the Ryan High School and was united in marriage to Leonard Moroney on June 25, 1941. The couple farmed in the Monti, Iowa area.

She is survived by five children; Carol Ann (Lee) Bossom, Quasqueton, IA., Rosemary (Dick) Rummell, Masonville, IA., Patrick (Colleen) Moroney, Monti. IA., Judy (Jeff) Corkery, Peosta, IA., Terry (Mary) Moroney, Monti, IA., nineteen; grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leonard, a granddaughter, and great grandson, a brother Clair Keegan, and a sister; Eileen Hutton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, September 26, 2009 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Monti, Iowa with Rev. Aloysius J. Vorwald officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 P.M. Friday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Quasqueton, Iowa and from 9 A.M. till services Saturday at the church. A Rosary will be recited at 3 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
