Buchanan County Bulletin, Friday, Dec 14, 1877, Independence, IA, Page: 2

FOR THE SCHOOL FUND-“Lize” Siewart has chosen to defy the law and authorities who are seeking to prevent her from plying her disreputable and unwomanly trade of making drunkards, and she is likely to find out before she is through that the way of her transgressor is hard, and that it is not carpeted for feminine feet. An action was commenced against her this week in behalf of the school fund, for selling liquor to drunkards, minors, and others, with damages claimed at $20.000, and as security for the judgement, if one is found, her property on Main Street in which is located her doggery, has been attached. The result of the case will be looked for with some interest, for all of the dealers of the ardent in town for many a day, this woman has proved the most defiantly unscrupulous and reckless. The question really is whether she is to do according to her own sweet will, or whether the law applies to her as to other men.
