Funeral services were held Tuesday for
a longtime Sumner and Fredericksburg
area resident, Wilko Schroder, 79, who
died Saturday evening, Jan. 3, shortly after
being admitted to Community Memorial
Hospital in Sumner.
There were 10:30 a.m. services at Peace
United Church of Christ in Fredericksburg
with Rev. David Fye officiating. Burial was
in Rose Hill Cemetery at Fredericksburg,
and Becker-Milnes Funeral Service of
Sumner was in charge of the arrangements.
Wilko, son of Evert and Grace (Drenth)
Schroder, was born Aug. 11, 1907, in Berta,
Netherlands. The family came to the
United States in May of 1913 and settled
in Butler County, Iowa, where he attended
rural schools. He was baptized on Sept.
3, 1916, at the United Church of Christ in
Belmond.
On April 8, 1939, he married Emma
Hagedorn, and the couple farmed in the
Fredericksburg and Sumner areas until
purchasing a home and moving to Sumner
on March 1, 1958.
He had been a member of Peace United
Church of Christ in Fredericksburg since
1945.
Survivors include his wife, Emma of
Sumner, a daughter, Mrs. Claude (Melba)
Brummett of Des Moines; two grandchildren,
Leroy Korte and Mrs. Randy
(Lynn) Clark, both of Monroe, Iowa; two
step-granddaughters, Mrs. Ivyl (Kathy)
Ransom of Truro and Connie Brummett
of Des Moines; five great-grandchildren;
three step-great-grandchildren; one
brother, Evert Schroder of Grenada,
Calif.; and one sister, Mrs. Noel (Jennie)
Mills of Smyrna, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents
