DIED - Last Saturday morning Aug. 7th, '86, Jas. Edwards, of Dayton township, passed away. He has been more or less an invalid for two years, but his serious illness has been only during this summer and was caused by a cancer in the stomach. For over a month previous to his death he could not take solid food. He was 67 years, 4 months, and 17 days old. Mr. Edwards was born in Wales, and came to this country in '46. He has reared a large family of children nine of whom, and a wife [Mary Jones Edwards], are left to mourn his death. He has been a consistent member of the Baptist church for many years, and his religious faith was triumphant at the dissolution, his last words being,-- "It is bright as day." The funeral services were held at the Grove Hill Schoolhouse on the Sunday following, Rev. Ellingwood officiating. A large concourse of people attended. Interment was made in the cemetery nearby [Grove Hill Cemetery].-- Sumner Gazette Aug. 12, 1886 issue - Research by Elvira Hebell
